Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 · Fes – Chefchaouen, the blue pearl

Drive through the green hills of the Rif to Chefchaouen. Spend the afternoon wandering its blue-washed alleys, the kasbah and the Outa el-Hammam square, and climb to the Spanish Mosque for sunset over the town.

Overnight: Chefchaouen

Day 2 · Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes

Morning in Chefchaouen, then drive to the Roman ruins of Volubilis and their remarkable mosaics. Continue to the imperial city of Meknes, with the monumental Bab Mansour gate and the royal stables, before arriving in Fes.

Day 3 · Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Merzouga: night in the desert

Leave Fes through Ifrane and the cedar forests of Azrou, where Barbary macaques live. Cross the Middle Atlas to Midelt and down the Ziz Valley to Merzouga. At sunset ride a camel into the dunes of Erg Chebbi to your camp for dinner under the stars.

Day 4 · A full day in the Sahara

Wake up early for sunrise over the dunes. Explore the area around Erg Chebbi by 4×4: the village of Khamlia and its Gnawa music, a nomad family, the old mines and the seasonal lake. Free time for optional quads, buggies or sandboarding, then a second night at the camp.

Day 5 · Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorge – Dades Valley

Sunrise over the dunes and camel ride back. Visit Rissani, then drive to the Todra Gorge for a walk between its towering cliffs. Continue along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the Dades Valley.

Day 6 · Dades – Valley of Roses – Skoura – Aït Benhaddou

A gentle day along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs: the Valley of Roses, the Kasbah Amridil in the Skoura oasis and the film studios of Ouarzazate. Overnight next to the ksar of Aït Benhaddou to enjoy it at sunset, without the crowds.

Day 7 · Aït Benhaddou – Tizi n'Tichka – Marrakech

Morning visit of the ksar of Aït Benhaddou, then cross the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, stopping at an argan oil cooperative. Arrival in Marrakech in the afternoon.
